The Author
Julie Gifford retired in 1999 at the age of 42 and went sailing! She and her husband Ed Kettyle jumped on their 44′ sailboat Free Radical and spent the next 7 years sailing – completing a circumnavigation of the planet in 2006. After her circumnavigation Julie worked for a period of time at the North sail loft in St Martin in the eastern Caribbean. Her professional training at the sail loft combined with her personal experience living full time on a boat and a lifelong love of sewing, have inspired her to write this very thorough and practical book.

The details in the illustrations are very clear and understandable. It is often that has not been the case with other DIY books I’ve purchased. My husband and I are just now retired and planning for the youth of our old age, half year live aboard, cruising Florida and Caribbean. Your book will be one in our ships library as reference for all future canvas projects.

Excellent reference manual for all things to do with boat canvas work
Brilliant book for a beginner at sewing who wants to make things for the boat. I’ve been using it to learn to use my new sewing machine and I’m nearly ready to start on a winter of real projects. It is based around American products but these are available as European versions too – a bit of googling required…
